**City of Port St. Lucie Prepares for Hurricane Milton**

The City of Port St. Lucie is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and is taking necessary precautions in anticipation of potential storm impacts. As of the latest advisory, St. Lucie County is under a tropical storm warning, with tropical storm force winds expected to arrive as early as Wednesday afternoon, October 9.

In response to the threat, all city facilities will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, October 9 and 10. Residents are advised to complete their storm preparations, including securing homes and adhering to emergency plans. For those concerned about their homes, seeking shelter with friends or family is recommended.

Garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste pickup will be suspended on Thursday. The St. Lucie County landfill will also be closed. Adjusted pickup schedules include Thursday's collections moving to Friday and Friday's to Saturday, providing weather conditions permit. Residents are urged not to place waste out for collection on Thursday.

The City’s Public Works department is actively clearing debris from drainage systems and has provided a list of roadways prone to flooding during extreme rainfall. Some flooding was reported as of Tuesday morning, and residents are advised to avoid specific intersections.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department will increase patrols and has scheduled 13-hour shifts for officers starting Wednesday. Residents are advised to travel only when necessary as they prepare for the storm.

The Saints Golf Course is closed due to wet conditions, with staff planning to reassess on Wednesday. Utility systems staff are preparing for potential service disruptions and residents are urged to conserve water.

A Special City Council meeting passed a resolution declaring a State of Emergency for Hurricane Milton, a necessary step for potential FEMA funding assistance. Hurricane shelters are opening at 2 p.m. at locations in Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce.

Florida's price gouging law is in effect following the declaration of a state of emergency, and residents can report any incidents through a specific hotline.

Residents seeking further updates can contact the city through its customer service system or visit the dedicated website for continuous information regarding closures and services affected by the hurricane.
