Residents of Port St. Lucie are reminded that they can resume using fertilizer until May 31. However, any fertilizer used must contain at least 50% slow-release nitrogen. This measure is part of a stricter fertilizer ordinance passed by the City Council on March 24, 2014. The ordinance aims to protect local surface waters, specifically the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and the St. Lucie Estuary.
