**Port St. Lucie Prepares for Hurricane Milton: City Closures and Services Impacted**
Port St. Lucie, FL – As Hurricane Milton approaches, the City of Port St. Lucie is actively preparing for the potential impact of the storm. A hurricane warning for St. Lucie County was issued following the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, which indicated that tropical storm force winds could arrive by Wednesday afternoon.
In response, all City facilities will be closed on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10. City officials have completed shuttering their facilities and are finalizing storm preparations. Residents are urged to secure their homes and adhere to their storm preparedness plans.
The Office of Solid Waste has announced that all garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste pickups will occur on Wednesday, October 9. However, the landfill will be closed on Thursday, and FCC Environmental Services will suspend trash collection services on October 10. Residents should not put out any waste on Thursday, and the adjusted collection schedule will move Thursday's pickups to Friday, October 11, and Friday's pickups to Saturday, October 12.
Additionally, the Convenient Drop-Off Center on Cameo Boulevard will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday to maintain capacity for potential post-storm debris cleanup. Residents are advised against trimming vegetation, starting construction projects, or placing debris at the curb.
The public works department has been clearing storm drains and inspecting infrastructure to mitigate flooding risks. All canal and lake water levels are currently at or below historical norms, and city officials will monitor roads for flooding.
Code Compliance officers are ensuring that outdoor items are secured, while the Building Department is advising contractors to secure construction sites. For water or sewer issues, residents can contact utilities at 772-873-6400, with teams available until storm conditions worsen.
Parks and recreation facilities are closed, with the exception of C24 Canal Park and Veteran’s Memorial Park, which remain open for watercraft removal. Public transit services, including the Port St. Lucie Express and Area Regional Transit (ART), are suspended until conditions improve.
All residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow updates from the City regarding Hurricane Milton through the official website and public safety channels.
